John Callahan's QUADS! is a blackly comic animated sitcom co-produced by Media World Features and Canada's Nelvana Limited. Funded by SBS Independent, Screenwest, Film Victoria (second series) and Media World Features in Australia, and by Nelvana and Teletoon in Canada, the 26 x half-hour series is based on the work of North American cartoonist, John Callahan.

The series' co-production has brought about an exciting merger of Australian and Canadian talent in all aspects of production. With animators in Toronto, Melbourne and Perth able to access materials from a shared website, work on the series was able to progress around the clock.

The key to the Co-production was training the animators to use Flash, rather than training Flash operators how to animate! Whilst our animators found it rather strange to be using digital pens instead of pencils, the artists now have another valuble way of bringing characters to life on screen.

One of the key benefits of animating the series on computer rather than paper was the fact that the series partners - Nelvana Ltd in Canada and Media World Features in Australia - we were able to work from a central website. Animators in both countries worked with elements stored on a designated database, and individual scenes were instantaneously by both the Australian and Canadian Directors.
